Barracks Cove Kitchenettes offers a
slightly different accommodation option for your next
South West Nova Scotia vacation. Barracks Cove is more
than a hotel or a motel, it is a series of self-contained
cottage suites or units (in
one structure) that provide guests with a clean, comfortable room and
the added convenience of an 'open concept' kitchenette, dining and
living area.
There are three units at Barracks Cove
Kitchenettes, Shelburne. Each unit has a private three or four piece bathroom, a
bedroom and an 'open' kitchen, dining and living area complete with all
of the amenities, including a full-size fridge with mini-bar, a stove, a table for
four, a microwave oven and other appliances and cable TV. Guests have
the option of a one or two bedroom layout and a double or queen-size
bed. One unit (unit 3#) is 'barrier free' providing for easy movement of
wheel chairs for physically disabled guests.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love Barracks
Cove Kitchenettes. The facility is just a few feet from the mouth of Shelburne Harbour and a public hiking trail, and a brisk 10 minute walk for
Islands Provincial Park. There are groomed hiking trails, several boat
launches, dozens of family picnic areas and a sandy beach at the park.
Paddlers will enjoy exploring the many islands and small bays in the
harbour. Birders will appreciate the ease in observing shorebirds in
the area (Shelburne County is one of the best bird watching regions in
Nova Scotia); and hikers and walkers will find the miles of new and
old hiking trails difficult to resist.
And there are other attractions only a
few minutes drive from Barracks Cove Kitchenettes. The 18-hole, River
Hills Golf and Country Club is just 15 minutes away. The nearby
community of Birchtown, home to one of the largest Black Loyalist
settlements in North America, is only 3 minutes away. The school house
museum, old burial ground and historic church are fascinating places
to visit.
Barracks Cove Kitchenettes is about an
hour from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and the ferries to Portland and Bar Harbour, Maine.
It is about two and a half hours from Halifax and about an hour and a
half from the towns of Lunenburg and Mahone Bay.
The photograph above
(to the right) shows Dock Street in the historic Loyalist town of
Shelburne, Nova Scotia. The waterfront area with its quaint shops,
restaurants and museums is a popular destination for thousands of
visitors to Nova Scotia every year. Dock Street has also become a
popular movie location - 'A' The Scarlet Letter and Virginia's Run
were two recent productions filmed in the town. Dock Street is about a
five minute drive from Barracks Cove Kitchenettes.
